ZEVEX | Company Background

Company Background

ZEVEX Inc. is a designer, manufacturer and distributor of medical devices including diagnostic and therapeutic systems, optoelectronic devices, ultrasonic sensors and surgical handpieces. For 15 years, the Company has been designing and manufacturing products for many of the world’s leading healthcare companies which market them under their own labels or, in the case of the Company’s component products, incorporate them into their products. In a strategic move to broaden the Company’s technological core competencies in December 1998, ZEVEX acquired Aborn Electronics, which is an established developer and manufacturer of optoelectronic devices.

In 2001, approximately one-half of ZEVEX's revenues are generated from its own proprietary products. In 1996, the Company established itself as a technology leader in the field of enteral nutrition delivery with its patented EnteraLite® ambulatory enteral feeding pump. In 2005 ZEVEX introduced its next-generation enteral feeding pump, the EnteraLite® Infinity®. Through the acquisition of two product lines in 1998 and 2000, ZEVEX now distributes a complete line of portable and stationary pumps, disposable sets and feeding tubes that are used in the delivery of enteral nutrition for patients in their own homes, in hospitals and in nursing homes.

Proprietary Products

Enteral Nutrition Delivery
The EnteraLite® Infinity® enteral feeding pump, the cornerstone in ZEVEX's enteral product portfolio, is a portable feeding pump for patients requiring nutrition delivery directly into the stomach or intestines. Designed for both hospital and home care, it is the lightest, most compact ambulatory enteral feeding pump on the market today, possessing unprecedented safety and accuracy in liquid nutrition delivery. The EnteraLite® Infinity® requires the use of dedicated disposable delivery sets, which ZEVEX also provides.

The EnteralEZ® Stationary Pump and Disposable Sets were initially acquired from Nutrition Medical in July 1998. Then in April of 2000, ZEVEX acquired the installed base of stationary pumps owned by Nestle Clinical Nutrition. These are employed mainly for stationary patients in hospitals, long term care and home care facilities. ZEVEX now offers a complete line of products to the global enteral nutrition delivery market, which in the U.S. alone is approximately $450 million.

ZEVEX Sensors, Surgical Devices, and Fluid Management
ZEVEX produces components for many industrial and medical device leaders who, in turn, sell these under their own label, or incorporate the components into their own designs. ZEVEX also manufactures complete medical systems. ZEVEX expanded its contract design and manufacturing capabilities with the acquisition of Aborn Electronics in December 1998, in order to gain expertise in optoelectronics. This strategic purchase added to ZEVEX's existing strength in ultrasound, allowing it to improve its competitive advantage when bidding for business.
