Enteral Feeding Pump User Spotlight
Hi, I'm Coby Beltran and I am six and a half. When I was five years old I found something that I love to do. Go racing. My parents and some friends of mine have joined together to help me do this.
I started life ahead of schedule and that has lead to some very unusual challenges. Mom and Dad have had a lot of extra medical expenses helping me meet them. I try very hard to be just a regular kid. But sports are out for now. I found that the quarter midget racing world was one place I could do something and be accepted. I've already spent way too much time in the hospital. I know there is more to come and racing helps me feel like a kid and not a pin cushion.
I have a g-tube for an eating issue and an intestinal problem, so I spend quite a bit of time hooked up to a feeding pump. I use a ZEVEX pump that I carry with me in a backpack. Before I got the ZEVEX pump, I had to stay still next to the IV pole. Now I take my pump with me and can ride in the car, walk, run, and even play on the monkey bars while the pump is working!
Mom & Dad like the ZEVEX pump too, they said "Before we started using a ZEVEX pump, the IV pole Coby was hooked up to tipped over a couple times, pulling the tube out of him. Even going to the restroom was a chore. We had a couch potato. It was like tethering a dog in the back yard where it could only go around in a tight circle, and that's it. Now Coby doesn't fight his feedings, his attitude has improved and he is healthier and happier."
