In her short life she has undergone multiple tests to determine the cause of her eating disability. Her doctors felt correcting the GERD seemed to be the answer, so she underwent a Nissen Fundoplication. During surgery, the pediatric surgeon also placed a gastric tube, as a precaution. Ana was only supposed to be in the hospital for 2 or 3 days, instead she was there for 10. After surgery the doctors waited for her to start eating. Four days later Ana could no longer walk or stand due to weakness. She did not show any signs of hunger or thirst. On day 4 or 5 they began tube feeds. Originally Ana received a pump that needed to be kept upright all the time and was too heavy for her to carry. Since then, I was able to get an Infinity pump for her. This has been so much better for Ana. She has been able to do anything she wants with it; from running to turning flips. She is no longer stuck to an IV pole. Also, Infinity does the work for me with the interval feed feature. I am a very busy mommy of 4 and I was constantly forgetting a feed or giving it late. Now, her pump feeds her every 3 hours and alarms if it needs mommy support for a kink or more formula. I want to thank ZEVEX for thinking about the littlest ones when they designed this pump. Infinity has not only made Ana's life easier it has also made mine easier. Other people don't even realize what it is; they assume she wants to be a big kid so she wears a backpack. Thank you ZEVEX. Ana Maria’s specialists feel she needs to be evaluated and treated at Kennedy Krieger Institute. They can offer her the best care and hopefully diagnose her lack of hunger and thirst. I am a mother of 4, living in South Carolina. My little Ana Maria is 21 months old and has been diagnosed with hyperlipidemia, hypertrygliceridemia, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and failure-to-thrive. In addition, she has an undiagnosed eating disability. Ana will sit at the table and ask for food when others are eating. However she will only eat a few bites; most of the time, she chews it then spits it out.
